Description

Integration compatibility in Corporate Performance Management (CPM) software involves the capacity of the system to seamlessly connect with an Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS), which expands the sphere of applications and services that the software can integrate with.

Example Use Case

Scenario: An international enterprise employs CPM software to manage performance metrics across its global entities. The business also leverages a variety of other software systems such as ERP, CRM, and Supply Chain Management solutions, housed in different geographical locations and with potentially disparate data formats.

Solution: By ensuring the compatibility of the CPM software with an iPaaS system, the enterprise can effortlessly weave together data and applications from the disparate systems. It allows unified management and analysis of performance metrics, which negates the challenges associated with disparate data formats and system locations.

Considerations

iPaas includes systems like Mulesoft, Boomi, Zapier, TIBCO, Informatica, and so on. Having access to one of these tools allows the CPM vendor to create essentially one integration which is used to talk to many potential source systems. Without that, they must create a custom integration to each system on the market. That could take years. Nonetheless, some CPM vendors will not connect to an iPaaS tool due to cost - sometimes the iPaaS license is more expensive than the CPM tool itself.

Questions to Ask a Vendor

  • Integration Capabilities: How broad is the compatibility of your CPM software with an iPaaS system? Can it easily integrate with commonly used applications?
  • Specific Platforms: Are you setup with one of the iPaaS platforms, or many of them? Do you prefer one?
