A reporting-only user type is a particular category whose permissions are limited to viewing and downloading reports but have no permission to edit or manipulate data or view any sort of entry forms even if static.
Scenario: An international retail company uses CPM software for managing financial data. The organization hierarchy includes roles like store managers, analysts, and executive officers, all requiring varied data access.
Solution: Implementing multiple user types in CPM software would allow the retail company to categorize users based on their roles. Store managers and analysts are set as Reporting-only users. They can access and download reports relevant to their work but cannot modify data within the system. Executive officers, having broader responsibilities, might have extended privileges, contributing to data security and effective user management.
This basic requirement can have to do with licensing and pricing, or with functionality, or both. These license types are always less expensive than a full access user. In some cases, they're included for free. These differ from “view only” in that they specifically limit the user to only Reports, no sheets or any other screens. Report users can usually manipulate the reports and create new reports. Dashboard creation and manipulation are also often included in this user type.
